Many moons ago, my friend Smittee brought a fresh salsa to our community group and it tasted so much like Chili’s salsa that I instantly fell in love! I lost her original recipe long ago, but I can’t forget the extremely important lesson she taught me that day: you can make amazing salsa with one easy hack: CANNED TOMATOES.
These days I have my own version of her salsa that brings our whole family joy every time we make it!

The Easiest Fresh Salsa
Light and tangy salsa that's easy to make and so good you could eat it with a fork.
Ingredients
- 2 15-ounce cans diced tomatoes
- 1/2 bunch cilantro
- 1-2 limes, squeezed for juice
- 1/2 mild onion
- 1.5 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp sea salt (or to taste)
- 1 tbsp white vinegar
- 1/4 tsp optional cayenne pepper for heat (to taste)
Instructions
- Blend all ingredients together.
- Adjust to taste {add more lime or vinegar = more tangy, more cayenne = more heat}.
- Serve, or for better flavor, refrigerate salsa for 3-4 hours.
