With the big game coming up here in the US, you may be looking for an easy way to feed a crowd. This turkey chili is the perfect dish to serve because it’s healthy, filling, and much cheaper than beef! We make this chili on a regular basis to feed our large family and it’s enough that we don’t have to serve it with anything but saltine crackers. We like our chili seasoned Texas-style, so this recipe is a lot like the Wick Fowler’s mild chili! If you like less seasoning, start with half of what I used and then add more from there. 🙂

Texas-style Turkey Chili

super easy + cheap turkey chili recipe (for a crowd)
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Servings 8 people

Ingredients

  • 5 lbs. ground turkey
  • 4 28 oz. cans crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cups chili powder
  • 1/4 cup cumin
  • 1/4 cup onion powder
  • 2 tbsp garlic salt (or to taste)
  • 1 4 oz. stick of butter unsalted

Instructions

  • Brown turkey in a large skillet or pot.
  • If possible, mix other ingredients in a large chili pot and simmer on medium-low while meat browns. (If not, use your meat pan after cooking).
  • After browning, add the cooked turkey to your chili sauce and simmer all on medium-low for 20 minutes. (The longer the simmer, the better the flavor, up to an hour on low or in a crockpot on low for 2-4 hours).
  • After cooking, add my favorite secret ingredient, one stick of butter, if you're up for extra richness and more balanced acidity.

Notes

This batch will easily serve 8-10 people.
