We started demolishing the fireplace! Here’s the before:
If it seems strange to remodel a brand-new fireplace, I’m with you because it felt strange too! One of the things we decided we wanted to do when we bought this home was to make this house our own style. It is a perfect canvas for a little DIY design, which is absolutely one of my top favorite things to do in my life. I love the process of trying to figure out what I want and drawing and dreaming and making picture boards. It’s an effort that I enjoy, and my sweet husband and kids indulge me in manning the labor department. 😀
I didn’t hate the red brick but our house is all white brick and stone, and we don’t have any brick like this on or around our house. I wanted a more modern look so we (they!) took it off:
While they worked hard, I went to the eye doctor with one, then Home Depot to get blinds cut, and Lowe’s for a store pickup, then we girls went on another evening walk.
Since I was without a large man, I was prepared to meet danger… 😉
Mostly in the form of canines. Being chased by giant growling dogs is one of my biggest pet peeves (ha!). When we saw one already barking at us from a quarter mile away we had to turn around because I can’t even run at this point! Luckily these girls did some sprints for me so I could live vicariously:
Back at the house, I visualized some options for the design. As I suspected, the proportions of this fireplace are going to need work:
I decided to sleep on it and tried out my new lamp while I did some research. I LOVE this little LED battery-operated light. It can fit just about anywhere!
It was a solid day of school, errands, and home repair. I just love how accomplished the day feels when you can see tangible progress! 🤗
